The name Diamond Bluff refers to the prominent limestone bluffs that rise above this community and serve as a landmark for river pilots.
The peaceful community of Diamond Bluff was the site of one of the most famous disasters along the Wisconsin Great River Road. On July 13, 1890, a 110-ton steamboat named the Sea Wing sank, killing 98 people.
Today a memorial plaque, placed at Sea Wing Memorial Park commemorates this tragic event. The main river channel comes within a few feet of Sea Wing Memorial Park, providing a great place to see the majestic power of the Mississippi.
